High School Football In Nevada Forced To Adjust To Extreme Temperatures.
"Liberty football coach Rich Muraco had to adjust his summer practice schedule. As Las Vegas experienced a record heat wave in July, high school teams had to figure out how to manage the heat and continue with their programs. So instead of having a weightlifting session in the morning and having his players come back at night to practice, Muraco said he scheduled everything within a 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. window."
Las Vegas experience the “most extreme heat wave in the history of record-keeping in Las Vegas since 1937” in July 2024 with 5 straight days above 115.

August 2021: Northern Nevada Schools Cancel Classes Due to Wildfire Smoke and Poor Air Quality
"Northern Nevada school districts released statements on how they will move forward with school cancellations due to the hazardous air quality. Washoe County School District announced the closure of Incline Village schools on Sunday evening before expanding the closure districtwide early Monday morning. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Reno, Sparks and Carson City were reportedly at a hazardous level Monday morning. It is forecasted to improve on Tuesday. The district said its emergency manager will monitor the air quality each day. ‘When making our decision to cancel school, we weigh a number of factors including the potential for prolonged exposure to hazardous air for students who wait for the bus, students who walk to school, the requirements for increased ventilation on our buses, and information provided by the National Weather Service about weather patterns potentially improving or worsening air quality conditions,’ the district said in a statement."
