Climate Action Campaign Statement on Devastating Climate Fueled Tornadoes in West Michigan

Earlier this week, devastating tornadoes tore through West Michigan, leaving a large swath in ruins and which Governor Gretchen Whitmer attributed to the climate crisis.  Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, issued the following statement:

Tuesday’s tornadoes in West Michigan have left devastation in their wake, and my heart goes out to all those affected. The scenes of destroyed homes and shattered communities highlight the urgent need to address climate change.

As we continue to break temperature records year after year, we’re witnessing more frequent and intense extreme weather events like tornadoes. These events not only cause immediate destruction but also have long-term implications for communities, economies, and ecosystems.

Preventing even more catastrophic events in the future requires bold action and Solutions for Pollution that can limit the climate change fueling these increasingly common crises.

In the aftermath of these tornadoes, let’s extend our sympathy and support to those affected and recommit ourselves to the fight against climate change. Together, we can build a more resilient and sustainable future for all.”
