Event Recap: East Point Mayor Deana Holiday Ingraham opened the event talking about how her city is both overburdened with pollution and welcomes tackling the problem of climate change–while also featuring a thriving urban agriculture community that will benefit from federal investments in climate-smart funding. State Representative Kim Schofield spoke of both the importance of agriculture in the state and the importance of addressing climate change. Chaundra Simmons, who is a nurse and farmer, centered her remarks on how she deals with the health problems of climate change and how the farming community will thrive with the implementation of these programs. Bobby Wilson highlighted how his farm serves as an example of using smart agriculture practices, including the use of solar panels. Councilman Joe Carn closed the event underscoring the importance of clean energy in the South Atlanta area and how this will empower local farmers.
