CAC Joins Members of Congress Calling on EPA to Clean Up Existing Gas Plants
Today, 86 members of the House of Representatives released a Dear Colleague letter calling on the Environmental Protection Agency to close the loopholes exempting existing gas plants from power plant pollution standards and conduct robust stakeholder engagement as part of the rulemaking process. In response, Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, issued the following statement:
“We applaud EPA’s hard work to limit climate and other dangerous air pollution from the power sector. Today, we join more than 80 members of Congress in encouraging EPA to finish the job by finalizing comprehensive standards that will clean up existing gas power plants, the single largest source of carbon pollution from the energy sector fueling the climate crisis. Exempting gas plants from pollution standards leaves millions of Americans exposed to dangerous air pollution that harms public health and worsens extreme weather. We thank the members of Congress who have signed this letter, for helping to ensure that EPA moves quickly to continue to clean up our air and water and makes more progress to meet the climate commitments that President Biden made.”
