CAC Presents Solutions for Pollution Champion Award to EPA Administrator Michael Regan
Award recognizes accomplishments in slashing climate pollution, creating jobs, advancing environmental justice, and accelerating the transition to clean energy.
Washington, D.C. — Today, in recognition for all his work to protect our air, health, and environment, the Climate Action Campaign (CAC) presented EPA Administrator Michael Regan its inaugural Solutions for Pollution Champion Award.
Taking office after the agency had been decimated by the previous administration, Administrator Regan returned the science-based approach that has been the hallmark of the EPA and restored morale to the staff who do the essential work of protecting our health from unchecked climate pollution.
Administrator Regan’s leadership delivered the pollution standards now in place that will turbocharge the transition to the clean energy economy, slash climate pollution and build resilience against the devastating impact of climate change. He advanced several important pollution standards, including limits on deadly soot and mercury pollution, limits on carbon pollution from power plants, limits on tailpipe pollution from cars, trucks and buses, and a host of other life-saving pollution protections.
During a fireside chat interview moderated by Ella Nilsen of CNN, Administrator Regan celebrated the remarkable progress the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has made to tackle climate and air pollution and outlined the EPA’s upcoming and ongoing efforts to safeguard science and build on that progress to deliver a clean economy for all Americans.
“When President Biden and Administrator Regan first took office, the task before them was, in a word, daunting. Three and a half years later, it’s a totally different story. Thanks to Administrator Regan’s leadership and hard work, Americans are going to be healthier, our communities will be more resilient and better protected from the extreme weather fueled by climate pollution, with good-paying jobs and investments in communities that have been overlooked for too long” said CAC Director Margie Alt. “With tremendous empathy and humility, Administrator Regan has returned the EPA to its core mission to protect our health and environment. There is simply no one more deserving of the Solutions for Pollution Champion Award.”
EPA Administrator Michael Regan, said: “We’ve made such tremendous progress. Many of you have spent years, if not decades, fighting for a cleaner America. You’ve knocked on doors, collected comments, built a groundswell that’s resulted in actions we’re celebrating today. You all truly embody Solutions for Pollution. Our world and our country is better off because of your persistence. Advocates like you are fighting every day for environmental justice and public health. You all will always have a seat at EPA’s table, because we believe in your vision, precision and tenacity. “
CAC’s multi-year Solutions for Pollution campaign focused on driving federal action, from the EPA and other agencies, to stem climate pollution and protect our air, land and water. But there is more to be done as we strive to meet President Biden’s pledge to cut climate pollution by half by 2030. CAC and its coalition partners will continue to stand with the EPA as it works to continue to combat climate change and deliver on those promises.
