CAC Statement on USDA Announcement of $90 Million in Conservation Innovation Grants
Washington, DC – Today, President Biden and USDA announced $90 million in new Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) to support the development of new agricultural tools, approaches, practices and technologies to further natural resource conservation on private lands. In response, Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, issued the following statement:
“The Biden administration and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack just presented farmers and foresters with a powerful new tool to help them conserve land and fight climate change, thanks to investments made possible by the landmark Inflation Reduction Act.
The $90 million in new Conservation Innovation Grants, announced by Secretary Vilsack in Pennsylvania today, are a testament to the administration’s commitment to fostering innovative solutions to tackling the climate crisis. These grants will help farmers develop and implement natural solutions to cut methane and limit the pollution driving climate change while also helping prevent the most catastrophic impacts of the climate crisis that make it increasingly harder for farmers to protect their bottom lines.
By supporting groundbreaking projects that promote sustainable farming practices, enhance soil health, and improve water quality, the USDA and the Biden administration are protecting our environment and making the agriculture sector more resilient to climate change. These initiatives support America’s farmers, providing them with the tools they need to thrive in the face of increasing climate impacts.”
