CAC: Trump and Musk are Undermining America’s Most Promising Economic Engine
WASHINGTON–The first full jobs report under the Trump administration showed lackluster hiring amid the worst private sector job cuts since 2009. The real picture is worse: It doesn’t account for tens of thousands of new jobs lost or delayed, including more than 42,000 jobs in clean energy alone. Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign (CAC), issued the following statement:
“Today’s jobs numbers are a flashing warning sign that Donald Trump and Elon Musk are driving the economy off a cliff with their slash-and-burn approach to America.
“The Trump administration is sabotaging one of America’s most promising economic engines: the clean energy sector. Trump and Musk are recklessly blocking billions in clean energy investments, gutting job-creating initiatives, and fueling economic uncertainty for an industry that is delivering good-paying jobs, lower energy costs, and a healthier environment.
“More than 42,000 clean energy jobs have already been lost or stalled due to Trump’s illegal obstruction of vital investments. These aren’t just numbers on a report, but actual people with promising careers in solar, wind, battery manufacturing, and EV production – industries that are revitalizing communities across the country. Instead of supporting this booming sector, Trump’s erratic trade policies, attacks on government services, cutting off job-creating investments, and giveaways to oil and gas billionaires are driving businesses to cut hiring, halt investments, and stifle innovation.
“Meanwhile, everyday Americans are left paying the price, with rising energy costs, more limited opportunities for how they get their own energy, and fewer opportunities in one of the fastest-growing industries of the 21st century. Trump’s economic agenda is devastating for American workers, but he’s too busy protecting his billionaire buddies to care.”
