Climate Action Campaign’s Alt Responds to Christopher Wright’s Confirmation as Secretary of Energy
“The Senate’s confirmation of Christopher Wright as secretary of Energy is a devastating setback that will reverse the tremendous progress we’ve made in transitioning to a cleaner, more secure and more prosperous energy future. Wright has made it clear he will lead the Department of Energy backwards by fulfilling Trump’s anti-clean energy, pro-polluter Project 2025 agenda, prioritizing oil and gas profits over the health and wellbeing of families and communities.
This agenda will shackle America to dirty, dangerous, and expensive fossil fuels, undermining progress in the fastest-growing sector of our economy – clean energy. Clean energy is creating good-paying jobs, lowering household energy costs, and strengthening energy independence. Wright’s confirmation signals an intent to roll back this progress limiting Americans’ choices and stifling innovation, all to pad the profits of oil and gas executives.
Americans want cleaner air and water, safer communities, clean energy choices and a stronger economy. Despite polls consistently showing bipartisan support from the vast majority of Americans for transitioning to clean energy, Wright’s leadership will put the interests of polluters ahead of the public, even many who voted for Trump. His agenda will make energy more expensive and less reliable, while leaving the U.S. vulnerable to climate-driven extreme weather.
Americans deserve leaders who embrace clean energy as an opportunity for growth and progress – not an obstacle. Christopher Wright’s confirmation is a tragic betrayal of those values.”
