CAC’s Margie Alt Blasts Trump/Musk Move to Close EPA Environmental Justice Office
WASHINGTON–The Trump administration on Wednesday closed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s environmental justice office and placed on leave the staff whose job it is to implement environmental justice and civil rights programs designed to mitigate the disproportionate impacts of the climate crisis on disadvantaged communities. The following statement is from Margie Alt, director of the Climate Action Campaign:
“Removing the very people whose job it is to protect those communities disproportionately affected by dangerous air pollution and the impacts of the climate crisis, makes it clear that President Trump and Administrator Zeldin have no intention to keep their promise to protect access to ‘clean air, land, and water for every American.’ The decision to close the department focused on environmental justice and dismiss its staff is unprecedented, reckless, and a direct assault on disadvantaged Americans. Environmental justice is a critical part of EPA’s mission and we will steadfastly fight to ensure the agency has the funding and staff it needs to protect those hurt first and worst by the impacts of pollution and climate change as well as all Americans.”
