Climate Action Campaign Statement on Congressional Attempt to Overturn LDV Pollution Limits
Today, Senator Mike Crapo and other polluter allies pushed for a Senate vote to undo EPA’s recently finalized Light Duty Vehicle Cleaner Cars Standards that significantly limit tailpipe pollution from new passenger vehicles sold from 2027-2032. In response, Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, issued the following statement:
“The Biden administration made a smart move driving forward standards that put cleaner cars on the road when they finalized the strongest ever limits on tailpipe pollution from passenger vehicles a few weeks ago. When implemented in model year 2027, these standards will clean up our air, cut climate pollution, make our families healthier, and give consumers more affordable and cleaner choices about what cars they drive. Unfortunately, some members of the U.S. Senate today did the bidding of big oil companies and pushed a vote to roll back this vital public health standard even before it goes into effect.
Thankfully, the measure failed. We appreciate all the senators who stood up for cleaner air and real Solutions for Pollution. We are particularly grateful to Pennsylvania Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman, who both voted to protect EPA Clean Cars standards today.”
