Today, President Biden and EPA Administrator Michael Regan announced the EPA’s final Heavy Duty Vehicle Standards, limiting tailpipe pollution from new freight trucks and other heavy duty vehicles. In response, Margie Alt, Director of the Climate Action Campaign, issued the following statement:

The transportation sector is the largest source of climate pollution in the United States and heavy duty vehicles like freight trucks are the most polluting vehicles on the road. That truck pollution disproportionately and devastatingly impacts the health of people in communities of color and other overburdened communities that are often nearest ports and other high traffic freight truck corridors.

Last week the EPA set strong climate pollution standards for cars, SUV’s, and small trucks and now the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is taking on dirty diesel trucks and other polluting heavy duty vehicles as well. We congratulate the EPA for announcing new final Cleaner Trucks standards that will help rein in this deadly source of pollution, protect the health of our communities, reduce the carbon pollution driving dangerous and costly climate change, and move us further down the path to Route Zero and a pollution free transportation sector.”
