Climate Action Campaign’s Alt Blasts Russell Vought’s Confirmation as OMB Director

WASHINGTON–Following the Senate confirmation of Russell Vought as director of the Office of Management and Budget, Climate Action Campaign Director Margie Alt issued the following statement:

“The Senate’s confirmation of Russell Vought as director of the Office of Management and Budget is a tragic setback for Americans’ health, the climate’s health, and the economy’s health.

“Vought and other Trump nominees share a dangerous allegiance to fossil fuel profits over public well-being. As the architect and champion of Trump’s radical, anti-science, anti-clean energy Project 2025 agenda, Vought will now oversee President Trump’s plan to roll back critical climate protections. We also expect he will attempt to strip Americans of the freedom to choose healthier, more cost-effective energy options, and hand over unchecked power to polluters – leaving families sicker, communities poorer, and our economy weaker.

“Vought’s confirmation underscores the Trump administration’s willingness to ignore the rule of law as it charges ahead with enacting the unpopular Project 2025 agenda, cancelling investments meant to help small businesses and bring down costs for consumers, and eliminating safeguards protecting our health and environment. The vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, favor investments in clean energy and pollution limits along with clean air, clean water, and clean energy. Yet Trump’s cabinet including Vought will prioritize fossil fuel CEOs over the millions of families bearing the costs of dirtier air, contaminated water, and skyrocketing energy bills.

“This reckless leader and his agenda are an affront to children, seniors, and vulnerable communities who will pay the highest price with more asthma attacks, higher healthcare costs, and the devastating impacts of climate-driven disasters. Clean energy is not only the fastest-growing sector of the U.S. economy but also the cheapest and most reliable. Yet Vought and Trump’s Climate Chaos Cabinet would shackle America to dirty, expensive fossil fuels, undermining innovation and ceding clean energy leadership to our global competitors.

“We applaud Senate Democrats for speaking out so forcefully against Vought’s confirmation in their overnight protest, sending a signal that this nominee was beyond unqualified to downright dangerous.

“Americans deserve leaders who prioritize our health, safety, and prosperity – not ones who will ignore the law and to make it easier for Trump to line the pockets of polluters while driving up prices for consumers. Vought’s confirmation is a betrayal of that promise.”
