Climate Action Campaign’s Clean Energy REVolution Tour arrives in La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Climate Action Campaign’s Clean Energy REVolution Tour arrived in La Crosse Friday morning. The tour highlights grants and investments made to clean energy and why they are important to community members. One of the local speakers was La Crosse County Board Supervisor Monica Kruse, who says its also important for the Coulee Region.
“We are crafting a climate action plan right now, which lays out parameters for how we can become more climate conscious. The things that we can do as a county that will counteract some of the more egregious effects of climate change,” says Kruse.
Kruse says things like the Rural Energy for America Program, which support rural businesses in adopting or expanding clean energy solutions, are great ways to spread knowledge about clean energy on a local level.
“I think it needs to be done at every level, but I think the local level is where the rubber hits the road, where people actually need to do the heavy lifting. I think the feds work is to send us money and to provide guidelines and to provide laws that safeguard our health and the health of our communities. But I think the real work takes place at the local level,” says Kruse.
Kruse also believes that more people should pay attention to issues like climate change and energy costs than can be solved with clean energy.
“I think our survival depends on it. You just need to read the news and look around to see the horrible climate events going on. All of us are affected by that. I think we need to take precautions. We need to do what we can to counteract all that,” says Kruse.
Other talking points made by the tour included a $62.4 Million federal investment to assist disadvantaged Wisconsin communities by installing solar on single-family and multifamily residential properties to reduce household energy bills.
The Clean Energy Tour began on July 30 in Green Bay and will end on September 13 in Philadelphia.
