Washington, D.C. – In response to the U.S. House of Representative’s Congressional Review Act vote to roll back the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s lifesaving Clean Car Standards, Climate Action Campaign Director Margie Alt released the following statement:
“The ‘do nothing’ House of Representative is once again hiding the ball, and trying to distract us from the fact that they have failed to fulfill their most basic responsibility — paying the government’s bills.
“Today’s vote to roll back the EPA’s Clean Car Standards is a cynical and reckless attempt to shift our gaze from their inability to get anything done. Attacking the strongest single climate standard implemented by the Biden Administration — that also provides significant health benefits, promotes innovation in the transportation sector, and creates jobs — is irresponsible.
“House Republicans have once again chosen their oil exec buddies’ profits over the health and wellbeing of everyday Americans and the environment. Earlier this week they took committee votes approving irresponsible rollbacks of standards limiting pollution from truck, carbon pollution from power plants, and soot pollution. Rolling back these climate solutions and lifesaving health protections puts the House majority on the side of the polluters, not the people.
“We cannot jeopardize the chance for the U.S. to meet its climate goals, or the health protections and economic progress the nation and automakers and unions are making thanks to strong Clean Car standards. We must hold Congress accountable and demand they prioritize people over profits. Our environment, our health and our communities are too precious to sacrifice.“
