Climate Action Campaign’s Margie Alt on Proposed NOx Standard Released by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
WASHINGTON–Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released an updated proposed standard limiting nitrogen oxide (NOx) pollution for new gas-fired power plants. The new source performance standards have not been updated since 2006, despite a requirement under the Clean Air Act to review and update the standard every 8 years. Following is a statement from Climate Action Campaign Director Margie Alt on the proposed standard:
“The EPA’s proposed limits on NOx pollution from new gas-fired power plants is reasonable, achievable, and will save lives. This standard will reduce Americans’ risk of serious illnesses such as heart disease, and stroke. Action was needed and long overdue. While more must be done to protect our health and environment, EPA must finalize this standard in a timely manner to save as many lives as possible."
