EPA’S NEW MANAGEMENT HALTS $7 BILLION IN SOLAR FOR ALL CONTRACTS THAT DELIVER CLEAN ENERGY AND LOWER BILLS IN VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES

WashingtonReports indicate that the Environmental Protection Agency, under new management as of 10 days ago, has frozen $7 billion in contracts awarded through the Solar for All program to deliver clean energy and lower prices to vulnerable communities. This action comes after a series of arbitrary budget cuts and grant freezes that were implemented by the Trump administration on Monday and reversed on Tuesday – although the White House Press Secretary denied the order was rescinded. Margie Alt, director of the Climate Action Campaign released the following statement:

“Donald Trump has a long history of violating his contractual obligations going back to his earliest days as a developer. Then, like now, it’s hard-working people and small businesses most often left holding the bag. The Solar For All funds the EPA is now withholding are specifically designed to bring down energy costs for low-income and disadvantaged communities.

“President Trump claims he is going to lower people’s electricity bills by 50% in 12 months, but his administration’s actions to obstruct clean energy will do the opposite.

“Despite backing down from its illegal attempt to freeze all federal grants and loans, the Trump administration is clearly charging ahead with its plans to cut off programs protecting people from climate and air pollution and lowering their energy bills, helping people recover from extreme weather disasters, and investments in clean energy creating hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs.

“The chaos and confusion of these first days of the Trump administration only serve as a distraction from Trump’s real agenda – making sure small businesses, average families, and vulnerable communities pay the price for his unpopular Project 2025 agenda while his oil and gas cronies reap the benefits. We will continue to stand up against these attacks on our climate, our clean energy economy, and our health. We call on newly installed EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to reverse the Solar for All freeze and deliver on each and every one of its promised grants and contracts, as authorized by law, to the communities that need them most.”
