CAC: DOE Analysis Shows LNG Exports Not in America’s Interest
WASHINGTON–The Biden administration today released the Department of Energy’s analysis of the environmental, economic, and public health impacts of liquified natural gas (LNG) exports, showing expanding LNG exports would raise domestic energy prices, worsen pollution in already burdened communities, and slow the deployment of clean energy rather than replace dirty coal. The following is a statement in response from Climate Action Campaign Director Margie Alt:
“Scientists have warned us for years that we need to slash carbon pollution to stave off the worst and permanent consequences of climate change. The DOE’s analysis makes it clear: The expansion of LNG exports would raise costs on families, severely worsen the climate crisis, and harm frontline communities, all while lining the pockets of fossil fuel executives. This year’s devastating extreme weather events from coast to coast – which scientists tell us are supercharged by the climate crisis – are all the proof we need that we must double down on the transition to clean energy and drastically reduce the carbon pollution we produce.
"LNG exports are not in America’s best interest: They won’t bring down energy costs for American families, won’t improve our health, and won’t build the strong, secure energy economy of the future. We will keep fighting for clean energy solutions that will benefit all Americans – not just wealthy corporations.”
